On January 28, the CTV studio audience for "Late Night With Johnny P" hosted by Johnny Potenza was standing room only. Johnny's guests that night were Ramones drummer and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award Winner Marky Ramone, one-time Miss Staten Island and current Miss New York State Jamie Lynn Macchia, and comedian and host of VH1's That Metal Show Don Jamieson, and of course, his usual house band, Tony Traina and the Late Night Band "Late Night With Johnny P", for those of you who who have not yet heard of the show (and I say 'yet' because his viewing audience is rapidly expanding), is a public-access cable TV show filmed here on Staten Island that has just kicked off its ninth season. Johnny's guest are varied TV and movie actors, musicians, comedians; the type of guests you usually see on a late-night talk show. I haven't seen the spinning plate act yet, but I'm sure there will be one sooner or later. I sure hope so, anyway. Johnny P opened his monologue with an emotional tribute to his good friend, the late, great Joe Franklin, who was not only credited for being the first television talk show host in 1951 after a stint on radio landed him a job on television because they liked his voice, but became a mentor to Johnny P. Johnny and Joe became fast friends, and had the honor of knowing him on a personal level for the last four years of his life; Joe was Johnny's idol, and it was obvious that Joe liked Johnny a lot, too, even if he did tell him it was important to fake sincerity when necessary to be a successful interviewer. Johnny P showed us both a clip of him interviewing Joe as well as a clip of Joe interviewing Marky and Joey Ramone. Joe spoke very highly of the Ramones. You can tell in the interview that he liked them very much. By the way, I would have lost my mind laughing at the joke about the camels had I been there. You'll have to watch Johnny's interview with Joe to hear that story. Here is a photo of Joe I found at his desk in a Google Image search. Gotta love the disco ball. Johnny's first guest was the stunning Miss New York and former Miss Staten Island, Jamie Lynn Macchia, followed by the very funny Don Jamieson, who is the host of VH1's "That Metal Show". Johnny's final guest that evening was the legendary drummer for the Ramones, Marky Ramone. He was also a great guest, and was nice enough to autograph his book, "Punk Rock Blitzkrieg: My Life As a Ramone" for me.
